ROCHESTER, Minn. Veteran volunteers Darryl and Candy Ash’s donation to the charity allowed the nonprofit to open a new room called the Wishing Well.
The eye-popping, new space is filled with about 100 toys filling the walls on top of shelves. Young newcomers will be given the chance to pick out any of the toys for their own keeping once they move inside the charity.
The married couple, Darryl and Candy, started volunteering at Ronald McDonald House in 2001. Darryl said their love for the nonprofit’s mission of supporting families and their sick children through the unimaginable inspired him and his wife to make the generous donation.
“To be able to help these families, help these kids when they need it the most, that feels pretty good to us and we are happy to do it,” said Darryl.
After witnessing families adapt to a new city, home and health circumstances for over two decades, he said this magical pitstop will allow these children to escape any anxiety they may be feeling.
“When you are heading off on a health care journey and you can have the opportunity to take your mind off of that by looking at all of this cool stuff and picking out something for yourself, that’s a great way to take your mind off of what’s coming and enjoy the moment,” said Darryl.
