BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – Sarah Budzisz is a 26-year-old in Bryan who owns her own mobile dog grooming business called PupStarz.
But for this story, she’s the star, because her mom, Cheryl, has nominated her for a “Be Remarkable” award.
Sarah’s remarkable story started when she was a senior at Bryan High School.
That’s when she began collecting games, toys, and stuffed animals to donate to children who are hospitalized.
“Most of the stuff I get from people from donating online and I’ll look around, find stuffed animals and buy them and just collect them until we get to the hospital every month,” said Sarah Budzisz.
She’s been doing this for 8 years now and her donations aren’t part of any formal organization or nonprofit—there’s no name, board, or team behind it. It’s simply Sarah’s heartfelt desire to bring comfort to children facing difficult times.
Kristen Christian is Director of Emergency Services at St. Joseph and sees how these donations help young patients.
“You know, the ER is crazy and chaotic and the toys for the kids are just one small, little piece of comfort we can give them and we can’t do that without Sarah’s help,” said Christian.
Sarah said she likes doing this because when she was a child she was also hospitalized for a health issue and remembers how lonely and dull it can be to be isolated in a hospital room.
She’s expanded her donation efforts to local law enforcement agencies, to make sure kids in a crisis have some sense of comfort. Her mother Cheryl couldn’t be more proud.
“I’m very proud of her and she never, ever seeks recognition. She never talks about it. I do, but she does not and she’s so humble about it,” said Cheryl Budzisz.
